There was a legend about a parade that was held in Chicago in the 1800s to kick off a Scottish gathering.                      According to the legend, the sound of the bagpipes startled a horse which reared up and threw its rider through a shop window.                       The court case that resulted was decided on the basis of whether or not the bagpipe was a musical instrument.                       The verdict was against the pipes.

  • We are proud to announce that Northwest Indiana Pipes and Drums has recently been promoted to Grade 3, and we are looking to recruit additional pipers and drummers. As a Grade 3 band in the Chicago area, we would love to hear from players who want to push their limits while playing some great music. The band benefits from our fantastic coaching staff; which includes professional training from Adrian Melvin, Chris Barr, and Sharon Burden along with expert tuition from Bill Smillie and Pipe Major Rob Brockie (Grade 2 Champion Supreme winner 2009). If you like a challenge (while still having fun), we would like to hear from you....call our Pipe Major, Rob Brockie at (574) 514-6188
