  • On Thursday, 15 July 2010 band members had the honor to perform at the memorial service for our fallen comrade - Officer Thor Soderberg who was killed in the line of duty on 07 July 2010.  The band was joined by hundreds of police officers from across Illinois and the Midwest and stood side by side with our brothers and sisters from the Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society to honor this fallen hero with the dignity and solemnity of the bagpipes and drums.

  • Band members attended the National Peace Officers Memorial held in Washington, DC the week of May 9th.  The band marched in the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies parade and attended the candlelight vigil and memorial service on Saturday, May 15th.  We were joined by some old friends and made some new ones along the way. 

  • On Thursday, 06 May 2010 band members traveled to our State's Capitol to honor Illinois Peace Officers killed in the line of duty.  In addition to having the privilege to march in the memorial parade (leading a few hundred police motorcycles) band members joined the Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society at the memorial.  A slew of photos can be seen on our Facebook page here.

     

  • On May 1, 2010 the band played at the St. Jude March.  This is a step-off event for which band members will participate in over the coming weeks to honor police officers; IL Police Memorial in Springfield on 06 May and the National Police Memorial in Washington DC on 15 May.  Additional photos can be seen here.

 

  • On Thursday, 15 April 2010 the band was honored to play at the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police Lodge for a benefit for the Police Survivors Group which raises money for officers who are seriously injured in the line of duty

     

  • The band would like to extend condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Chicago Police Department Sergeant Alan Haymaker, star #2532, who succumbed to fatal injuries following an accident which occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on 22 February 2010.  Sgt. Haymaker was responding to a call of a burglary in progress when he lost control of his patrol car while traveling southbound on Lake Shore Drive.  Sgt. Haymaker, a 21-year veteran and third generation police officer, was assigned to the 023rd Police District since December 2009. He leaves behind his wife, three daughters and a son-in-law.

     
  • On 14 November 2009 the partnered up with Chicago's bravest to play the pipes and drums at a benefit supporting Misieracordia.  The event was held @ Bourbon Street and band members were honored to be a part of the benefit.  Photos here

     

  • On 10 November 2009 members of the band (and some friends) came out to honor the men and women of the United States Marine Corps in celebration of their 234th birthday at a SEMPER FI party.  Check out a few photos from the party here.

     

  • On 09 October 2009 several members of the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department were joined by a comrade from the CFD Pipe Band at the CPD versus CFD Soccer Game.  A few photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • THANK YOU to all of our supporters - FAMILY, FRIENDS, CO-WORKERS - everyone - who came out to support the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department as we celebrated our 10 year anniversary on 17 October 2009.  Special thanks to the Stockyard Kilty Band for their performance.  Photos from the event can be seen here...

     

  • On 12 October 2009 members of the band were joined by members of the CFD Pipe Band in Downtown Chicago joining 100 other bands and floats for the annual Columbus Day Parade.  If you can't tell from the photo above - sweaters, turtle necks and skull caps had to be worn because it was cold.  The temperature was hovering in the upper 40's - low 50s.  We are always happy to help our Italian friends by playing Volare on the bagpipes.  More photos can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pdcpd/sets/72157622610079067/

     

     

  • On 09 October 2009 members of the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police were joined by members of the Chicago Fire Department Pipe Band at Midway Airport to honor World War 2 Veterans.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On 30 September 2009 members of the band were joined by members of the CFD Pipe Band at Mid-Way airport to honor World War 2 veterans.  The band is so very proud to support the men and women who served and continue to serve the Unites States.  Photos can be seen here

  • On Sunday, September 27 2009 members of the Pipes and Drums of the CPD headed out to the "Taste of Mountain Greenwood" where a tent as setup and t-shirts, raffle tickets and entrance tickets to our 10 year anniversary party were being sold.  The band even played a few tunes for tips.  Check out photos here

     

  • On 20 September 2009 band members performed at Gold Star Park in support of the American Knights Motor-Cycle Club's "honor our fallen" event.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • During the evening of 18 September 2009 the pipes and drums performed at US Cellular Field (home of the Chicago White Sox) for a half way to St. Patrick's Day celebration.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On 18 September 2009 members of the Pipes and Drums were joined by members of the Chicago Fire Department Pipes and Drums to play for a Medal of Honor event in Chicago.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On 17 September 2009 the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation hosted the annual candlelight vigil.  The band performed in honor of our fallen heroes alongside the Bagpipes and Drums of the Emerald Society, Chicago Police Department.  Photos from the vigil can be seen here.

     

  • On 09 September 2009 band members played side by side with our brothers and sisters from the Chicago Fire Department Pipe Band at Midway airport to honor World War 2 veterans.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On 20 August 2009 band members welcomed home members of Crestwood National Guard who returned from their deployment in Iraq.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On 16 August 2009 band members performed at a benefit for the family of Chicago Police Officer Nathaniel Taylor.  Band members were joined by our brothers and sisters from the Chicago Fire Department band.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On 18 July 2009 members of the band stood side by side with our brothers and sisters from the Chicago Fire Department Pipe Band to honor WWII veterans.  Photos from the event can be seen here.

  • On 04 July 2009 some band members participated along side some members of the Pipes & Drums of the Chicago Fire Department on stage at the Taste of Chicago.  Photos from the gig can be seen here.

     

  • On May 6-7, 2009 band members journey to Springfield, Illinois for the annual Police Officer's Memorial ServiceThe Illinois Police Officers Memorial Committee was established in 1985. The monument in Springfield, Illinois bears the names of the officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities. Every year on the first Thursday of May, they hold a ceremony to pay tribute to fallen officers and their families. The band is grateful to all our contributors who have helped keep these memories alive and is always proud to participate.  Photos from the 2009 memorial can be seen here.

     

  • It's a moment to honor Chicago Police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. On Sunday, May 3, 2009 police officers gathered for the annual St. Jude Memorial March at Museum Campus Drive near Soldier and the band proudly marched in honor of our fallen heroes.   Photos from the ceremony can be seen here.

     

  • On April 18, 2009 band members participated alongside members of the Chicago Fire Department Pipes and Drums for the Special Olympics.  This event was held atWhite Sox Park in Mt. Greenwood.  Some photos from the event can be seen here.

     

  • On October 5, 2008 the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Police Department joined with the Pipes and Drums of the Chicago Fire Department to perform at the Chicago History Museum to honor "Fallen Police and Fire Heroe's" who died in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
