Greenville Games | 2nd Place Finish!!

Posted on by Joseph Brady

On May 28, 2010 band members traveled to Greenville, South Carolina for the 5th Annual Greenville Scottish Games. This was the band’s second appearance at the games and this year competed in a field of 6 bands; and this time around we were missing a couple of pipers and drummers from the circle…

The band finished 2nd (1,3,2,3) with 48 points tying Charleston Police Pipe Band who took 1st - bettering us with a 1st place ensemble score. Congratulations to the men and women of the Charleston Police Department Grade 5 pipe band – we can’t wait take to the field with you at Stone Mountain.

While quite a bit of criticism lurks about the quality of United States “public safety” pipe bands it is so encouraging to see bands like the Charleston Police and Wake & District go out and represent how well public safety bands can perform in a competitive environment (consistently finishing 1st and 2nd against one another) and still maintain the tradition of proudly honoring fallen comrades.

To the family and friends of the District – THANK YOU – for coming out to support band members in competition both individually and as a group. There is a tremendous amount of work which goes into a 3 minute performance in front of judges and other members of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association and while we didn’t bring a 1st place trophy home from Greenville this year – we will continue to work hard, play the best we can and always be in the hunt.

A “job well done” to band members Melissa Fox-Jones and Jacob Egen on their solo drumming events; keep up the good work!
